Hayagriva
- Narada asks Brahma for a Vidya or spiritual wisdom by which one gains Aishvarya — excellence, prosperity, and intellectual capability.
- Brahma teaches the Hayagriva Brahma Vidya, whose fruits (attainments) include:
- medhā and prajñā — learning, understanding, intelligence, memory
- vāk-siddhi — eloquence and mastery of speech
- śrī-siddhi — prosperity and success
- liberation (ultimately, if desired)
Hayagriva Mantra
- The text gives a meditation (dhyana) of Hayagriva.
- Then, it gives a series of Hayagriva mantras intended to cultivate the attainments.
- The most important of these chants is the Hayagriva one-syllable (beeja) mantra.
- Lineage: Brahma → Maheshvara → Sankarshana → Narada → Vyasa → the world.
Main Beeja: ह्लौं (hlauṁ or halauṁ)- Variation: The Hayagriva Upanishad recension studied gives the beeja as ha + la + uṁ. Some manuscripts preserve a sa-reading instead of la. That is, hsauṁ or hasauṁ.
