Dattatreya
- The Dattātreya Upanishad is presented as a dialogue between Brahma and Narayana.
- Brahma asks Narayana for a taraka (a liberator).
- Narayana suggests Datta-Atreya Vidya.
- dāṃ is the bija or seed syllable of Dattātreya.
- In a series of mantras in this tradition, the syllables daṃ and drāṃ are also found related to Dattātreya.
- Dattātreya is described as an Avadhūta and an ocean of knowledge.
- Dattātreya Vidya is said to bring prosperity, yogic experience, protection, and purification. But the final fruit repeatedly emphasized is jīvanmukti (liberation).
